A Major League Baseball team, San Diego Padres is based in San Diego, California. Padres are member of the West Division in the National League West. The team was founded in 1969. The team plays their home games at Petco Park in downtown San Diego, California. Since 1969, San Diego Padres has won two NL Pennants and five West Division titles.
First baseman Nate Colbert was considered as the Padres’ best player during its formative years. In 1974, Colbert left the Padres and star outfielder Dave Winfield joined the Padres. Winfield played in 1,117 games for San Diego and collected 1,134 hits, 154 home runs and drove in 626 runs. In 1980, Winfield joined the New York Yankees.

The Chargers spent their first season in Los Angeles before moving to San Diego. Since 1960, San Diego Chargers won one AFL Championship (1963), one Conference Championship (1994) and twelve Division Championships (1960, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1992, 1994, 2004, 2006). In 1982, the Chargers were involved in a memorable overtime playoff game against the Miami Dolphins that resulted in an ultimately winning 41-38. A minor league ice hockey, San Diego Gulls is based in San Diego, California. The San Diego Gulls was founded in 1966 as part of the Western Hockey League. The team played its home games at the IPayOne Center that is located in Point Loma, San Diego, California. The Gulls played in the Pacific Division of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League).
Until 1974, San Diego Gulls played in the WHL (Western Hockey League). The Gulls played eight seasons in the WHL, and though qualifying for the playoffs each season except the first but never won a playoff series. The San Diego Gulls of the East Coast Hockey League are the FIVE time Taylor Cup Champions.
The San Diego Gulls’ cheerleaders were known as the San Diego Gull Girls. The team had two mascots called Sandy Gull and Baby Gull. Steve Martinson. served as the head coach of the Gulls throughout their WCHL stint and through their first year of ECHL play. In 2006, the Gulls folded and released their players as free agents.
